Juergen is still working on the electrical boxes and metallic conduits.
We are not sure about the distance between the receptacles as defined in the code, one person says "6 feet", the next one states "8 feet", and on the internet you can find anything between 6' and 12'.
That is why Maria checks the "Bible of all things electric", i.e. the NEC (National Electrical Code):
In article 210.52 A1 you can read that "Receptacles shall be installed such that no point measured horizontally along the floor line of any wall space is more than 1,8 m (6ft.) from a receptacle outlet". All sockets which are easily accessible and open for use up to a height of 5.5' count in that number.
Though we are not obligated just to be on the safe side we still install one socket on 16" in the middle of the wall where all the other receptacles are on a height of 4'.

Another point of discussion was our choice of shutter switches. The German switches are much easier to use for Maria. Patrick begs us to reconsider as an inspector, including the one for the finall inspection, will not allow such a switch as is does not have a UL stamp, i.e. not approved for use on the US market.
In the end we decided, again to be one the safe side, to buy American "Rocker Double-Throw Center OFF Maintained Contact Single-Pole Switches" for the shutters. Fortunately we found some grey ones on Amazon which were on offer for $ 7,93 (instead of over $ 33,00 for the white ones).
We think about to use all grey switches and sockets on that level, maybe in combination with stainless steel frames.
Today the Mechanical Inspector is scheduled. He checks if the ductwork has been installed correctly to ensure that Maria's Art Studio will be supplied with cool or warm air from the a/c. No problem: Jon Bour Divine Air and Property Services Inc. |
