Building a boat dock with a lift

When we bought auch combined sailing and motor boat "Breakin' Wind" we decided that we needed a boat lift with a deck around it. The advantage: Juergen avoided the work of taking the boat out of the water every 2 or 3 years to scrap off the barnacles under the keel which stuck there because of our brackish canal water.

The work started in spring 2019:

  • The Breakin' Wind at the old concrete dock
  • Something is happening ...
  • ... the pilings for our dock are loaded ...
  • ... onto the barge on the opposite canal side ...
  • ... and brought over to our lot.
  • The first pilings are set already, ...
  • ... most of them are still waiting in the water ...
  • ... to be forced into the canal floor ...
  • ... by a vibrating pile driver ...
  • ... which makes a lot less noise than expected!
  • This needs team work
  • At the end of the first day the barge stays
  • All pilings are installed ...
  • ... the two-by-fours ...
  • ... still ...
  • ... need some ...
  • ... work.
  • The barge stays ...
  • ... until most of the ...
  • ... connecting beams are in.
  • And the Breakin' Wind lays at Patrick' dock yearning for her new berth.
  • Delivery and loading of new material
  • These are lift parts
  • The barge is gone, and ...
  • ... further work from the water side ...
  • ... has to be done by float.
  • Material on the lawn
  • On land ...
  • ... everybody keeps ...
  • ... busy.
  • Drill and screwdriver enjoy the short brake ...
  • ... before the work ...
  • ... continues.
  • The base construktion ...
  • ... for the deck ...
  • ... takes ...
  • ... shape, ...
  • ... including the area on top of the old concrete dock.
  • A little step to make it easier to get on board.
  • The boat lift ...
  • ... including hardware and electrical parts is ready to be installed.
  • Deck planks
  • The base construktion is done, ...
  • ... now ...
  • ... the work ...
  • ... installing ...
  • ... the wood decking ...
  • ... can start.
  • Now it's ...
  • ... the lift's turn.
  • Some strong guys ...
  • ... are needed ...
  • ... to lift the top ...
  • ... onto the pilings!
  • Before it can be screwed on top ...
  • ... the 2 pilings have to be moved inwards a bit ...
  • ... by putting tension on them.
  • Then everything is getting attached ...
  • ... and the tension chain is removed.
  • And now ...
  • ... everything ...
  • ... allover ...
  • ... again ...
  • ... for the ...
  • ... other side!
  • The left and ...
  • ... right motor ...
  • ... at close range
  • All decking is fixed ...
  • ... just the edges have to be cut ...
  • ... and the cradle is connected to the lift already.
  • Maria relaxes against the end piling!
  • See! Everything is ready.
  • Now the Breakin' Wind ...
  • ... may move at last ...
  • ... to her...
  • ... new berth!
  • And there ...
  • ... she is ...
  • ... in her new ...
  • ... "hammock"!
  • Add two colourful Adirondeck chairs ...
  • ... and we can enjoy the view!
